Welsh Mixed Pairs Championship

Congratulations to Cornish pair, Wendy Thornton & Wally Heaton, who now play most of their bridge where they live in Wales, on winning the Welsh mixed pairs championship held in Llandridnod Well on 27-28 February.  In a three session event they finished with 57.97%, 0.5% ahead of Patrick Jourdain and Gilly Clench.

County Knockout Final

This final will be played between Thomson (Benfield, Warren, Cant, Mabley) and Boxall (Vaughan, Clifford, Boxall).  In the semi-finals, Thomson beat Keast by the closest possible margin - 1 IMP after 44 boards, as they were level after 40 boards, and had to play an extra 4 boards.  In the other semi, Bickerdike was leading going into the last round, but they were slaughtered in the last eight, for Boxall to run out comfortable winners by 36 IMPs.

West League 2009-10

With only playing 7 matches in total, the West League has finished already.  Winners again are The Shufflers (Wendy Miller, Wendy Thornton, Joe Bryant, Wally Heaton, David Stone (occasionally)) who beat Double Entry ( 2 Keasts & 2 Robsons) 103 VPs to 99 VPs.  They appeared to be coasting to victory, but after a surprising 15-5 reversal against Reshuffled in Round 6, the winners could have been overtaken in the final round of matches. Indeed they were losing at the half way stage of their match against Dancers, but like true champions they knuckled down in the second half - David Stone even lay off the red wine for a few hands - to win the match 12-8.  Final positions by clicking here.

Club Teams of Eight

Nine teams (well done Wadebridge on entering two teams again) contested the Teams of Eight Championship on Sunday 21 February, with the winners representing Cornwall in the Garden Cities Regional Final at Bristol in May.  In a close finish, Camborne (Dave Boxall, Val Clifford, David & Lynda Chidell, Dommy Boxall, Jenny Vaughan, Heather Upton, Nick Grenfell) beat their close rivals Helston by 101 VPs to 99 VPs, with Bude and Penzance equal third with 95 VPs. Congratulation to Camborne, and the best of luck to them in Bristol.  Full results by clicking here.
